KPOP and the Global Call to JRock: The proof of the universality of the music?

As I write this, the Asian groups to meet the world rankings. Korean pop and Japanese rock groups are in markets previously dominated by Western culture and music landing.

Video Girl Band KPOP (Korean pop music, for the uninitiated) as Wonder Girls are millions watched on YouTube. His single "Nobody" is an international success. Meanwhile, the pioneers of JRock (ie, Japan Rock) and Visual Kei - XJapan - concerts in America, with tour datesvarious U.S. cities.

Japanese Rock Band

Without doubt, the Asian music with mass appeal on a global scale reached. And grow their fan base from countries other than Japan and Korea. But stay and JRock KPOP to be an object of curiosity.

Although their music is rooted in contemporary Western forms - Rap, Hip-Hop and R & B (Rhythm and Blues) for KPOP, and punk rock and metal for JRock their texts are usually in their own language. Meaning, and their non-KoreanNon-Japanese fans do not understand the message of the songs! And 'as if the global theme of today's youth, "Forget the message, just dig the music!" They do not understand the lyrics. Yet, they are in droves to hear in concert. And also download legally and get paid for it. Shocking but true, look at the "kids today" and even dress like their idols. The subculture of Japanese cosplay (costume play again, for the uninformed, in which fans dress up astheir favorite anime / cartoons) is a global phenomenon.

The question, therefore, evidence of both trends, the "universality of music" so-called? Music is the universal language?

A friend of mine would not agree. He says both examples of "cultural imperialism", where a culture influenced by an economically dominant country, directly and indirectly, and subjecting the culture of the backward nations. Simply put, he sees as the KPOP, and JRockDomination of Western music cultures of Japan and Korea.

I disagree. Direct and indirect - - Although I recognize the "pressure" economic issues (for example, the Western monopoly on the production, distribution and advertising in the music business overall) on cultural issues between nations, focuses on his point of view only the theme of "musical form".

I think if we would follow his logic that only the pure and real music (and culture in general), then "ethnic music"(Or the ethnic culture) of different countries. This opinion, I believe, is "narrow Puritanism."

Music - and culture - is constantly evolving, with regard to people of different backgrounds and mingle with each other in each other. National cultures are dissolving a global, multi-ethnic melting pot, facilitated by the development of the Internet and other means of modern technology. In truth, there is only one race - the human race.

But the American dominance in the relationshipNations could not be denied. The influence of Western music, Asian music is a byproduct of global economic Triumph America after the second World War.

But the more fundamental question for me is not the "form" of music, but his message or his "stuff". Be a debate in musical form as a simple comic considered persecution. On a lighter note, my sister and I made a site that fans JRock KPOP wells against drug addicts, but only for the sheer enjoyment of expressing themselves. But that's another story. Therefore, moreimportant that the means (musical form) is the message.

Unfortunately, the art (and music in particular) are in a sector, mainly driven by profit. It is not in business to promote artistic freedom and freedom of expression, but to earn money by the talented (and sometimes not so talented) people.

But there is a "chosen one" that can come from different - even contradictory - forms of music, but is given the opportunity to really express, even if that expression is not profitable. AParaphrase and guitarist Eric Clapton industry veteran, says in his autobiography that the percentages in the field of music is always the same: to be the percentage is always the same: 95% and 5% pure junk. And who are we disagree? "Clapton is God", says the graffiti late sixties in London. And God can not be wrong, right? (Smiles)

So we return to the question of the overall use of JRock and KPOP is a manifestation of the universality of the music? Yes, but only partially. Because ifusing different devices, such as Korean girls wearing tight shorts, their songs, which occurs when the background music and "Profit" takes over the steering wheel is for sale. But anyway, they are fun to watch, is not it? Pervert! (Smiles) #

  1. Indeed. Shouldn't matter where music is from, as long as it meets the people's needs. :) Hooray!
